SPFA News and Announcements

Hear ye! Hear ye! If you have a topic of interest to the SPF Industry and want to be a speaker, now is the time to act! The SprayFoam 2022 Call for Speakers is open until August 9. We are seeking speakers for breakout sessions that are 45 minutes long, including Q&A. The Conference Planning Committee will be reviewing submissions in August, and the schedule will be announced in September.

If you don’t want to be a presenter, but have a topic of interest the SPF industry, feel free to send the topic and suggested speaker(s). The site is set up so you don’t have to complete your submission(s) all at once. You may log in anytime and complete the process at your leisure, no later than August 9. If you have any questions or suggested topics, please contact Kelly Marcavage at kmarcavage@sprayfoam.org.

Mark your calendar for SprayFoam 2022 Convention and Expo, February 28-March 2, 2022 in San Antonio! The Convention and Expo are on Wednesday-Thursday, March 2-3, preceded by pre-convention certification and training opportunities on Monday-Tuesday, Feb 28-March 1 (details to come).

On Wednesday, March 2, 2022, SPFA will host the next National Industry Excellence (NIE) Awards in San Antonio. The NIE Awards honor contractor members for their innovative and trail-blazing projects. The projects are judged by an independent panel using a process that keeps the contractor and identifying aspects of the project(s) anonymous.

This year, we will be accepting nominations on projects covering a two-year period of time since we didn’t hold the Awards in 2021. Our goal for 2022 is to expand the number of companies who have never participated. We set this goal because a recent survey showed that contractors and suppliers find value in the NIE Awards, yet, when these same contractors were asked if they had participated, a majority said they had not due to lack of time and staff. There was also a lack of awareness about the integrity of the judging process. The NIE Awards web pages describe the requirements, the judging process and give tips for success.

In the past, some suppliers have helped contractors who needed and/or asked for assistance. For 2022, we will reward contractors who seek help and the suppliers who offer it. Excellent projects are a reflection of the partnership between contractors and suppliers. It seems only fitting that this same "team" work together on project submission(s).

In addition, former NIE Award winners have offered to mentor those new to the process. We’ve also had interest from suppliers who also want to help. SPFA Staff is starting a campaign to let everyone know how they can help. Feel free to contact kmarcavage@sprayfoam.org to offer assistance!

The NEW SPFA is listening to you and we are adapting to meet the needs and challenges of our members. Hopefully this new procedure will alleviate the barrier many contractors faced as they considered entering the NIE Awards. In return, suppliers will be recognized for their effort, both in the printed Awards Program and the ceremony. The nomination process will be open until until December 4, 2021. Please visit visit www.sprayfoam.org/2022nieawards for details so you can starting thinking about the project(s) you want to enter.

NEW in 2021: Five (5) Extra Credit points will be allotted for projects submitted with supplier assistance.

Construction workers, who often work outdoors in direct sunlight or in hot, enclosed spaces, are at risk for heat-related illnesses and, in severe cases, death. In fact, construction workers make up about 6% of the total U.S. workforce, but from 1992 to 2016, they accounted for 36% of all occupational heat-related deaths. Learn more about research findings on heat-related deaths among construction workers as well as CPWR resources and solutions to help prevent them in this 30-minute presentation, followed by Q&A.
Please be aware that CPWR's webinar platform enables 1,000 people to attend live; however, everyone who registers for the event will automatically receive the recording.

SPFA Courses and Certification

Our Professional Certification Program (PCP) has developed a logo that incorporates the image of the “new” SPFA. The official rollout will be in early 2022 when next year’s certification and accreditation credentials are renewed. We will be incorporating this new logo and the new Accreditation Marks in documents over the next several months so you will see both of them for a while. We didn’t want you to be confused as we go through this rollout.

SPFA Job Board
SPFA is doing its part to bring awareness of open positions in the industry to our members, partners, and untapped talent pools. For every one of these positions going unfilled it’s an opportunity missed, an extra staffing challenge drawing attention away from other important priorities, or a customer perhaps needing to wait longer than they should have to.
