SCAPA News and Events
The South Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association (SCAPA) is closely monitoring events related to the Coronavirus / COVID-19 outbreak to assess what impact it will have on association operations, as well as the effects to the asphalt paving industry. SCAPA remains in contact with key officials regarding road construction and will continue to provide updates on the website.
SCAPA Members: Summer Conference Update!
Reserve your room for the 2020 SCAPA Summer Conference, June 26-28, 2020. The event is to be held at the Omni Resort in Amelia Island, Florida, and the room block is open now; however, sponsorship and registration are still delayed in light of COVID-19.
In an effort to address and stop the impact of COVID-19 within the transportation industry, SCAPA has been working alongside the SCDOT, ACEC-SC, FHWA, and Carolinas AGC to create a plan. The Joint Workforce Safety Plan for COVID-19 was adopted by our industry partners on March 23 and is being used on all SCDOT projects.
We here at SCAPA want to hear from you! We have all had to make significant changes to the way we approach daily work and the way we do business in a very short amount of time. We are all a little uncertain as to what will happen next or where we go from here. But one thing is for sure, we are here to help you through these challenging times.

Industry News
SCDOT made a temporary revision to Section 401.4.30 of the Standard Specifications due to COVID-19. This revision institutes a "Contactless" Weigh Ticket Protocol for asphalt paving in order to eliminate the transfer of paper tickets for asphalt between personnel on SCDOT construction projects and the contractors. The protocol was created in conjunction with each SCDOT district and SCAPA and went into effect on April 8, 2020. It will remain in effect until further notice.
On Monday, March 16, 2020, SCDOT announced that it would be cancelling all SCDOT Technician Certification classes through April 17, 2020. This cancellation is extended through May 31, 2020. They have also extended some license expiration dates. Click the link below to access the SCDOT's Construction and Materials Announcement page.
