Government Affairs
Columbia, SC - After a two-year battle, Governor Nikki Haley gave final approval by signing S.1258, the road funding bond bill, into law. The bill allows the use $212 million in redirected existing fees and other revenue to bond up to $2.2 billion in one-time funding through the State Infrastructure Bank. The bonded money will be prioritized on a needs-based methodology by SCDOT over ten years for long-term highway projects and bridge replacement.

The year 2016 brought with it many issues related to election year politics (both the House and Senate are up for re-election), including the so-called bathroom bill, the ethics reform fight and gas tax filibustering. It also brought with it a time to recover from the historic floods and time to heal from the Emmanuel Nine Tragedy.
SCDOT recently shared its plan for the new funding for roads signed into law by Governor Haley last week.
