King Asphalt highlights the positives of working in the asphalt paving industry though its partnership with the Golden Strip Career Center!

SCAPA member King Asphalt is a partner with the Golden Strip Career Center (GSCC) and joined their School Improvement Committee in 2019. According to Zachary Michael, "The goal is to establish and build relationships with the school and to share positive insight about King Asphalt, Inc. and the asphalt paving (road) industry." He also said, "We have so much to offer. It's our job to educate."

Bryan Raeckelboom, the GSCC's Building and Construction instructor, posted a photo of another company's hard hat, and Mr. Michael was challenged to get King Asphalt's logo in the classroom too!

About the Program
The Building Construction program at Golden Strip Career Center serves about 40 students each year inside the classroom and through work-based learning opportunities. Students receive hands-on training regarding all aspects of residential construction including safety, blueprint reading, hand tools, roofing, plumbing and everything in-between! Students build small houses, sheds and various projects that are sold or donated within our community. Over 50% of our students participate in work-based learning during the school year and 100% of our level 2 and 3 students received full-time job offers this year!

Partnership
The partnership with local business, like King Asphalt Inc., provides authentic job experiences, funding for additional training required by the industry and access to safety equipment so the students are able to contribute to their communities and families directly out of high school.
