SCAPA Participates in 2016 SC Engineering Conference & Trade Show

Last month, SCAPA participated in the 2016 SC Engineering Conference, the largest conference for engineers in the state.

The annual conference is a combined effort of the American Council of Engineering Companies of South Carolina (ACEC-SC), the South Carolina section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the South Carolina Society of Professional Engineers. The keynote speaker of the conference was Major General Robert Livingston, Jr., PE of the South Carolina National Guard. He highlighted the efforts of the state during the flood event from October 2015.

SCAPA exhibited in the conference's trade show and spoke to hundreds of engineers about the benefits of asphalt. The trade show also allows engineers to find out more about the association and the educational opportunities that are offered.

SCAPA's technical presence was certainly felt in the concurrent breakout sessions as well. SCAPA Technical Director Jayson Jordan spoke to the conference's transportation track about the benefits of porous asphalt. The presentation outlined the advantages of porous pavements, as well as porous friction courses, which cover a majority of SC Interstates. The SCAPA Overlay Design Guide was also previewed at the conference:  Dr. Brad Putman of Clemson University's Glenn Department of Civil Engineering presented to a packed session full of attendees.
