On May 8th, Kimberly was afforded the opportunity to walk the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) Test Track and learn more about the research NCAT is doing to make roads safer and more durable. Researchers and sponsors took a 1.7-mile walk to examine the 46 experimental asphalt pavement sections. A portion of which was sponsored by South Carolina.

According to the NCAT website, "NCAT’s Test Track–the only high-speed, full-scale accelerated pavement testing facility in the world–is a 1.7-mile oval with experimental sections sponsored by highway agencies and the transportation industry." The site also states that, "This real-world laboratory allows for cutting-edge experimentation while avoiding the risk of failure on actual roadways."
