SC Asphalt Pavement Association Presents Pavement Awards

The South Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association recently presented awards for Green Construction, Innovative Pavement, Project Delivery, and Quality Pavements at its annual Winter Conference, held on January 30, 2018, at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center in Columbia, SC.

The Green Construction Award, given to projects using sustainable materials and practices, was presented to Sloan Construction and SCDOT District 3 for using over 77,000 tons of recycled asphalt pavement and over 200,000 tons of warm mix asphalt. Sloan Construction and SCDOT District 3 also received an Innovative Pavement Award for this project for South Carolina's first use of Intermediate B Special, a rapid road rehabilitation method that puts South Carolina on the cutting edge of the industry.

An additional Innovative Project Award was presented to Palmetto Corp and Florence County for its innovative use of Surface Type C mix as an underlying support layer for a cushioned, rubberized playing surface on the Miracle League Baseball Field.

The Project Delivery Award was presented to Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax Department and Banks Construction Company for timeliness and efficiency in the completion of East Montague Avenue in Charleston County.

In recognition of asphalt pavements with exemplary quality, SCAPA presented three Quality Pavement Awards to: The Lane Construction Corp. and SCDOT District 7 for work on Binnicker Bridge Road (SC Highway 70) in Orangeburg County; Banks Construction Company and Berkeley County for work on Autonomous Drive; and Rogers Group, Inc. and SCDOT District 3 for work completed on US Highway 29 in Spartanburg County.
