Simrill awarded for work on championing road funding

South Carolina: The South Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association (SCAPA) announced that South Carolina Representative Gary Simrill was honored as the 2017 SCAPA Legislator of the Year for his work to champion millions of dollars in new road and infrastructure funding.  Rep. Simrill received the award at the SC Asphalt Pavement Association’s Annual Summer Conference in Hilton Head, SC.

"On behalf of our member companies and the entire industry, this award is an opportunity to thank Rep. Simrill for his political courage and leadership to fight for road and infrastructure funding," said SCAPA President Mike Crenshaw.  "Rep. Simrill took on attacks from well funded out-of-state groups to represent the interests of South Carolinians.  Make no mistake about it, Simrill’s political courage will save lives on the road and will create good jobs in the workplace."

The Legislator the Year Award is not an annual award and is presented only to an elected official who goes above and beyond his or her duty as a public servant.

"Because of Rep. Simrill and other elected officials’ efforts, the road and infrastructure funding bill that passed this year will bring in more than $600M in recurring funds, which will finally bring our roads into the 21st century," said Crenshaw.

SCAPA supported and advocated for increased road and infrastructure funding to ensure that the state’s road safety is maximized and to ensure the state’s infrastructure adequately supports South Carolina’s economic development efforts.

The South Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association (SCAPA) is a non-profit trade association. Its members are comprised of asphalt producers and affiliated companies in South Carolina.
