On April 26, SCAPA members met with members of the SC General Assembly during an asphalt plant and quarry tour hosted by SCAPA, Sloan Construction Company and Vulcan Materials Company. Members of the SC House Education and Public Works Committee and SC Senate Transportation Committee met at Sloan’s Columbia asphalt plant and heard comments from SCAPA Members about the asphalt paving industry, its economic impact to the State of South Carolina, and the importance of the pending legislation dealing with road funding, work zone safety, and workforce development. After the presentation, members of the General Assembly toured the asphalt plant and the Vulcan Columbia quarry.

Representatives of the media were present, and WSPA News featured a great story about the plant tour. Click here to view the news story by WSPA!

Following the tour, SCAPA members took to the Statehouse for our annual Legislative Day. SCAPA members met with representatives from both the House and Senate to discuss the pending road funding legislation, as well as the work zone safety bill and workforce development proviso. SCAPA members also heard from SCDOT Deputy Secretary of Intermodal Planning Ron Patton and SCFOR President and CEO Bill Ross.

We appreciate everyone who attended these events, and we hope to repeat the event next year!

A special thanks to Sloan and Vulcan for hosting the tour this year!
