 Asphalt Institute Workshop

Last month, the Asphalt Institute traveled down to Columbia to host their latest workshop: "Enhanced Durability Through Increased In-Place Pavement Density."

Asphalt Institute Senior Engineers Bob Horan, P.E. and Greg Harder, P.E. led the day-long workshop covering topics from mix influencers of density all the way to new technologies like Warm Mix Asphalt and Intelligent Compaction. Attendees learned about how durability can be improved through small increases in field density.

Horry Georgetown Technical College Visit

Technical Director Jayson Jordan headed to the Grand Strand earlier this month to meet with students at Horry Georgetown Technical College (HGTC) and give two guest lectures. Students learned about the basics of asphalt, asphalt plants, construction, as well as opportunities in the asphalt industry workforce. SCAPA is looking forward to helping HGTC coordinate plant and site visits for students in the Grand Strand. Additionally, thanks to Professor Mannella of HGTC for the opportunity to visit and interact with the students!

SCAPA Exhibits, Presents at SC Highway Engineers Conference

SCAPA staff met with hundreds of department of transportation engineers in Columbia earlier this month. The 2017 Conference was held at the Columbia Metropolitan Conference Center and saw record-breaking attendance. The SCAPA tradeshow booth displayed new items from APA's Drive On Us campaign, as well as PaveXpress. On Day 1, Executive Director Ashley Batson presented SCDOT with a 2016 APA Perpetual Pavement Award. The 2016 award marks SCDOT's 6th crystal obelisk (pictured below) in 13 years. On Day 2, Technical Director Jayson Jordan presented in one of the three conference tracks. Jordan highlighted Balanced Mix Design and talked about other means to improve durability through in-place density.
