Field Validation of Laboratory Tests To Assess Cracking Resistance of Asphalt Mixtures

Texas Transportation Institute released a results digest evaluating different cracking tests and gives guidance on experimental design for validation of those test methods. Over the years, increased usage of recycled mixtures, binder additives and modifiers, and warm mix technologies have impacted asphalt mix design. In particular, it has made it tougher to evaluate behavior of asphalt mixtures on volumetric mix design alone. This has created a need to establish and implement performance tests that can be used to predict asphalt pavement cracking.
