Earlier this month, SCAPA Technical Director Jayson Jordan, P.E. met with Sara Anastasio, PhD, a postdoctoral researcher from Norway. They met at Tri-County Technical College's asphalt laboratory in Pendleton, SC with Georgia Asphalt Pavement Association (GAPA) Technical Director Will Rogers, PhD. Dr. Anastasio learned about design methodology and specifications of asphalt in the United States, as well as how GAPA and SCAPA help serve their contractor members. She shared her research and the contrast in mix design in Norway.

Dr. Anastasio earned her PhD and currently works at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). She has most recently studied the effect of aggregate surface chemistry with asphalt binders, as well as the effect that deicing chemicals and freeze thaw cycles have on asphalt pavements. At NTNU, Dr. Anastasio works for the Civil and Transport Engineering department, which is led by Department Head, Dr. Carl Thodesen. Dr. Thodesen earned his PhD from Clemson University in 2008, where he worked at the ARTS laboratory.
