Earlier this month, officials from the SCDOT Office of Materials and Research met with university and industry team members to discuss topics for research projects that will improve various aspects of transportation in South Carolina. Over 130 topics were initially sent in this Spring before 99 were picked for further consideration at the meeting. Those topics were discussed and explained in different breakout sessions ranging from categories from Environmental to Construction/Materials to Intermodal Planning. The Construction/Materials had various asphalt topics proposed such as: tack coats, mix durability, pavement interlayers, cracking prediction and liquid anti strips additives for high volume mixtures. Out of the 99 topics talked about at the meeting, 34 were selected as high priority topics.

SCAPA submitted a topic and participated in the event on June 1st at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center. SCAPA's suggested topic, "Cost Benefit of Project Level Analysis of Existing Roadway Sections" was selected for further consideration, but unfortunately was not picked as a high priority topic in the Maintenance Category.
