SCAPA’s Executive Director Jayson Jordan and Technical Director Kimberly Lyons represented the SC Asphalt Pavement Association at the 2022 SC Engineering Conference and Trade Show on June 9-11, 2022 at the Embassy Suites North Charleston Convention Center. The conference and trade show had a record crowd; more than 300 attendees were present. It was a great opportunity for SCAPA to network with fellow engineers from all over South Carolina.

Our Technical Director, Dr. Kimberly Lyons, presented two different topics on Friday of the conference: “Asphalt Pavement Maintenance and Repair Techniques” and “SCDOT Transportation Specifications Update.”

The annual conference is joint conference of the American Society of Civil Engineers - South Carolina Section (ASCE-SC), the American Council of Engineering Companies of South Carolina (ACEC-SC), and the South Carolina Society of Professional Engineers (SCSPE). Each group holds an annual meeting at the event. At the SCSPE Annual Meeting, our Executive Director, Jayson Jordan, presided over the meeting for the room full of PEs. Jordan served as SCSPE's President for 2021-2022, and also is the group's youngest president ever. He discussed hurdles faced this year with lingering waves of Covid-19, but painted an optimistic tone for the group's future. As last act of his presidency, Jayson awarded the SC Engineer of the Year honor to Catherine Warful, PE at the Awards Banquet. He was 2021 Columbia Chapter Engineer of the Year for SCSPE, and the group's State Young Engineer of the Year in 2017.

Earlier in the week, Jordan attended the SC American Public Works Association Conference in Greenville, SC. The conference marked the first time since 2019 that APWA had an in-person conference. Jordan moderated two sessions on Pavement Management and SCDOT Update. In addition, Jayson serves on the SC APWA State Chapter Board as Midlands Branch President for 2022. Various SCAPA members were exhibiting or in attendance for the annual conference at the Embassy Suites.
