How the Perspective Has Changed

The holiday season is here - the first one that feels like a true holiday season in recent memory. So many things have returned to the way we remember them, and yet...

As we meet with people these days it seems many of us are coming into this holiday season sharing a much greater appreciation of health, personal freedom, and time spent in good company. But we're also facing economic pressures. This is creating a double down effect of appreciating the value of looking out for one another and the value of the simple things. We hope it is the same for you.

This year at CPHR Saskatchewan has been much like that, in many ways. The stability of our organization has been something we've been able to rely upon, even as we have all changed so much. Both the perception and the reality of what it is to be a CPHR in Saskatchewan is forever changed.

At CPHR Saskatchewan, we continue to keep our feet firmly grounded by understanding the day to day of what it means to be an HR professional in Saskatchewan today, while we focus on the immediate environment and the horizon, so we can continue to advance the profession appropriately at every opportunity.

This year, the Board reviewed and updated the strategic plan, given this fundamentally new environment, and not surprisingly, the three main pillars and key focus areas have remained largely the same - Governance, Professional Standards, and Marketing and Branding - although some of the activities within these areas are changing.

Now that our responsibility focuses on acting in the public interest, everything we do must be seen through that lens. With that regulatory accountability, governance has been top of mind as we've strengthened our board and committee structures, and we will continue ongoing board training around the requirement for protection of the public.

CPHR professional standards have been adapted throughout this time, as we've worked with CPHR Canada to update the Competency Framework and are now aligning the Validation of Experience to reflect this new, more strategic HR profession. We anticipate that these standards will continue to evolve over time, but we are working to balance our members' need for a predictable and attainable path to certification with ensuring our standards are relevant to the profession and the marketplace.

Along with updating the standards, CPHR Saskatchewan has accredited four major post-secondary institutions, allowing those successful students to waive the National Knowledge Exam.

Finally we continue to strengthen the CPHR brand, increase awareness and grow our profile. Communication like this can be very expensive, so we are being very strategic in our approach. It is important to be in the right places, at the right time, with the right message. We are focusing our communication on you, our members; on potential members; on employers in Saskatchewan; on government; and on post-secondary education. CPHR Canada has an online brand awareness campaign that CPHR Saskatchewan is supporting and leveraging to best value here, because the more communication about CPHRs and the HR profession that flows nationally, the better.

The Board and Staff at CPHR Saskatchewan are largely made up of CPHRs and HR practitioners, so we know first-hand what you deal with on a day-to-day basis. Thank you for stepping up and enhancing the credibility of the profession as you have. Thank you for continuing to be involved and engaged. Thank you for a strong 2022, despite all the odds. We look forward to continuing to work with you, and for you.

Personally, we are proud to have served you and the HR profession through another remarkable year. It's a pleasure to work with this committed team of highly skilled and engaged people - thank you to the team Holly, Leanne, and Amanpreet; the Board of Directors; and member volunteers.

Please stay well and make time to enjoy moments during this holiday season that are exactly as you want them to be. You've earned it. (We've all earned it.)

We look forward to seeing you in 2023!
