2020 Year in Review

Season's Greetings,

Well, one thing we can all agree on is that 2020 has been like no other!

2020 also re-affirmed for me in so many ways why I love what I do. I have always been a passionate advocate for the HR profession, however this year, after seeing what you all have been through and how you have stepped up, it really has been a year like no other.

The professionalism, commitment and leadership displayed by our members has been second to none. While we may not be front-line health care workers or first responders who we are all so grateful for, we can be solidly proud in the knowledge that we provided to and supported the business in 2020 in new and innovative ways that mattered tremendously to all employees.

It was you who kept people safe, trained, engaged, paid and resilient through re-tooling, transitioning, re-allocating, re-deploying, changing roles, furloughs, re-hires and so much more. Now, it is CPHR Saskatchewan’s role to keep telling that story of value, contribution and public good.

This is also the 15th anniversary of CPHR Saskatchewan, and while we have not been able to hold any of our "normal" events and celebrations, we did manage to engage with members and stakeholders on social media, which we will continue to do.

Finally, we all finished 2020 with a huge collective win when the Government of Saskatchewan introduced the Saskatchewan Human Resources Profession Act for first reading on Dec. 9, 2020 – a monumental step forward in our 10-year efforts toward self-regulation. This is a point of pride and a point of optimism for the coming year. It serves as a proof point of the recognition and value of the human resources profession to the public and the economy, and a strengthening of the strategic nature of our roles.

So, I offer my deepest thanks to CPHR Saskatchewan members, board and staff.  It has been a remarkable year, and while 2021 will certainly continue to hold its challenges and surprises, it appears that better days are ahead!

I hope that you could take time over the holiday season for some well-deserved rest and recovery. I look forward to coming back together to continue our important and meaningful work.

Happy Holidays,

Nicole Norton Scott, BBA, CPHR
CEO/Registrar
