Significant Progress in Ontario RV Licensing

Print this Article | Send to Colleague

The RVDA of Canada extends its sincere congratulations to the Canadian Recreational Vehicle Association (CRVA) and the Ontario RV Dealers Association (ORVDA), as well as Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria and the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) for their successful collaboration in addressing long-standing RV licensing concerns in Ontario.

These crucial regulatory amendments, effective July 1st, will streamline the process for drivers operating recreational vehicles and foster greater harmonization with other jurisdictions. Specifically, the amendments to the Highway Traffic Act introduce two new licensing options:

  • A Class G, E, and F driver's licence endorsement for RVs between 11,000 and 14,000 kg.
  • A restricted Class D driver's licence for RVs over 14,000 kg.

Ontario is also introducing a new RV Learning Module to support these changes. This outcome is a testament to effective industry advocacy and government responsiveness, directly benefiting RV owners, dealerships, and manufacturers.

We applaud the dedication and efforts that have led to this positive change for the Canadian RV sector.
