Gunmaker Sig Sauer’s bid to block a product liability lawsuit has been denied by a federal court in New Hampshire. The plaintiff, Kyle Guay, alleges he was struck by a bullet in the leg because his pistol fired without a trigger pull when he was removing the gun from its holster. The suit claims the pistol has a defect that allows it to fire under certain conditions without the trigger being pulled. Insurance Journal (7/19/2022)
With an overall combined ratio in excess of 100 for the first time since 2017, private passenger auto joined homeowners in unprofitable territory in 2021, according to Fitch Ratngs. The new report includes listings of the top 10 carriers in both the personal auto and homeowners lines, along with a prediction from Fitch analysts that GEICO and Progressive will overtake State Farm on the personal auto leaderboard in terms of premium volume in 2023.
