The pandemic has accelerated the adoption of collaboration platforms in the workplace such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, Meta’s Workplace and Zoom. Today, almost four out of five organizations rely on these channels to facilitate employee conversations and keep work on track. The data they produce is different from other electronic channels for business communications, and management of the resulting risks has not yet caught up to adoption.

The Biden administration is proposing a massive overhaul of federal flood insurance that would prevent the government from insuring newly built homes in flood-prone areas and would drop coverage for homeowners who receive repeated claims payments. The administration also is proposing a nationwide disclosure law that would require homebuyers and renters to be told about a property’s flood history before they buy or lease a residence. Over 77 percent of organizations have at least one application that is not compatible with the latest version of Windows, with up to 25 percent of all applications incompatible for 89 percent of organizations. More than a third of businesses cited modernisation as an urgent priority, but organizations are also hesitant to initiate such projects, with almost a quarter of organizations either not at all or not very confident in their ability to fully upgrade these platforms to be 100 percent compatible with the latest version of the Windows operating system. A salad dressing maker is seeking coverage from its insurer for costs it incurred in preventing a shutdown of one of its processing plants due to a pollution event. Massachusetts-based Ken’s Foods maintains its insurer has a common law duty to cover the expenses it incurred to prevent an imminent covered loss even if its policy says otherwise. But whether Massachusetts recognizes such a common law duty is unclear. The federal court — First Circuit Court of Appeals— that agreed to take up the case wants the state’s highest court to weigh in.

A single large-scale natural disaster can cause the sudden failure of an otherwise solvent insurer, warns a new report from the Property and Casualty Insurance Compensation Corporation (PACICC). Climate change, which has fuelled increases in the severity and frequency of natural disasters, has become a “new and significant” source of potential insurer failures, PACICC says. Rims Resources
