The CYRP Carnival came to Waterfront Park in San Diego, California! What a day it was! With unlimited carnival games; unlimited popcorn, cotton candy and hot dogs; photo booths, bounce houses and axe throwing; we were able to give back to our current membership, bring in new membership, and bring our families together. Rental centers and vendors able to network in a casual environment took away the pressure and allowed us to all connect on a more personal level.

The Rental Services Industry Foundation is a 501c charitable nonprofit foundation. According to the Articles of Incorporation, “The specific purpose of this Corporation is to provide scholarships, continuing education, emergency relief, special studies and educational libraries.” This foundation was formed by the California Rental Association as a means to give back and help this industry that has provided so much opportunity to all of us.

The younger people of our industry and association need to be better educated, more skilled and more adaptive in this industry as our world changes at an ever-faster pace. RSIF can help them get the skills they will need through financial assistance for education. RSIF funds have been used in the past to help rental stores that have been hit by a natural disaster get back on their feet. And most recently, the RSIF Board of Directors allotted funds to the CRA to bring the lending library up to date and online for ease of access to all its members.

We need your help as RSIF has limited funds. The foundation’s income is solely from gifts, donations and any investment income earned. Please consider the RSIF in your charitable giving and estate planning or send your donation made out to the Rental Services Industry Foundation to the CRA office. The current and future generations of rental industry employees and leaders will be most grateful to you.

Focusing your safety program solely on reducing reported accidents and injuries or compliance with OSHA regulations means your safety and loss control program will never be completely successful. You’ll be applying all your controls to the tip of the iceberg, while major hazards may lurk unchecked. Why Create a Safety Culture?

Whether you accept the potential role jobsite electrification could play in climate change mitigation or not, electric power is headed to a jobsite near you in one form or another and is expected to continue to be an increasingly larger part of construction’s future. In fact, on a global basis, it's expected to become a $105 billion business by 2042.

“Electrification is coming,” stated Carl Gustaf Goransson, a corporate senior advisor and former CNH Industrial executive, in a panel discussion hosted in early February by Ritchie Bros. He cited production models introduced in 2021 that are already in operation globally. “Machines are going to market and they are operating very well – good feedback from the customers, and they know they’re meeting the regulations that are coming more and more.”

Chris Sleight, managing director, Off-Highway Research, agreed, noting, “We’ve had a year of electric machines actually genuinely being available on the market. Call me cynical, but there is a big difference between walking around bauma or CONEXPO and seeing [units] on display. But we’re genuinely seeing them in the market now."

But to what degree might it be implemented in the U.S.? Equipment Today has developed an official report that outlines the potential barriers to electrification (Cost, Durability, Charging Time, Availability and More!), while outlining what is in store for electrification within the United States specifically. Click on "Learn more" to see the report.
Specifically, HHS has proposed revisions to the:

Mandatory Guidelines for Federal Workplace Drug Testing Programs using oral fluid
https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2022-04-07/pdf/2022-06884.pdf

Mandatory Guidelines for Federal Workplace Drug Testing Programs using urine
https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2022-04-07/pdf/2022-06886.pdf

Because the Department of Transportation (DOT) must follow the HHS scientific guidelines for DOT-regulated drug testing laboratory procedures, participants in the DOT transportation industry drug testing program should be aware of the important issues that HHS is considering. Any final rule issued by HHS regarding these proposals may affect the DOT testing program under 49 CFR Part 40, but only after DOT conducts its own rulemaking.

DOT is providing this notice so that employers, employees and testing service providers involved in the DOT drug testing program are aware of the HHS proposals. We recommend that DOT program participants review the HHS proposals and if they have views or concerns to express, provide comments to HHS.

We urge interested persons to read the HHS proposals carefully and to provide any comments directly to the HHS Docket at https://www.regulations.gov/docket/SAMHSA-2022-0001/document.

During the past two years, Gov. Gavin Newsom’s administration has paid billions of dollars in secretive no-bid contracts with little to no transparency. Now Newsom is deploying his same secretive approach to a growing number of other public contracts. All Californians, irrespective of party affiliation, should be deeply concerned. Especially troubling is the Newsom administration’s perverse penchant for no-bid contracts, many of which renew automatically. Since 2020, his administration entered into more than 8,000 no-bid contracts, many of which were valued at more than $25 million. By the end of 2020, the total amount was nearly $12 billion. The latest example? Instead of simply suspending the state’s gas tax, Newsom wants to award a no-bid government contract to a yet-to-be-named third-party vendor to manage a process of providing rebates to Californians, a lot of busywork to distract drivers from the fact that he’s making them pay the state’s highest-in-the-nation gas taxes. After the horrible mess the EDD made by distributing payment cards in 2020, one has to wonder, what could go wrong?
By Jon Coupal and Angelica Salceda
Gov. Gavin Newsom has proudly proclaimed that “California does democracy like nowhere else in the world.” But as he warned, we cannot take our democracy for granted. The pandemic has changed how we do business: segments of the private world now operate remotely without the need for face-to-face interactions. But in a democracy, the function of government requires greater public transparency and accountability for its very foundation.
With several industries catering to brides and grooms, artificial intelligence (AI) has insights into what makes ads clickable in the wedding industry. We’ll all be hearing more wedding bells this year. In fact, 2022 is going to have a wedding boom. This year is estimated to have the highest volume of weddings since 1984. An estimated 2.6 million weddings are expected to take place, thanks to postponements, cancellations and elopements brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

With weddings returning to (and actually surpassing) pre-pandemic levels, several industries are scrambling to appeal to brides and grooms again. After all, the wedding industry is worth nearly $58 billion in the United States alone. This includes verticals like fashion, food service, entertainment, alcohol, travel and more. In a market that seems impossibly over-saturated, how can you make your ads stand out? AI is the best way to reach brides, grooms, families and wedding guests.
