There are two things that can almost always bring a group of people together: The first is the prospect of learning something new, and the second is breakfast! The California Young Rental Professionals offered just that and had a great turnout. The guest speaker was Carol Marzouk, “The Executive Lion Tamer.” Carol offered a different outlook on how to be a leader in one's company and how to be mindful of the human aspect of one's team and what they might need on an individual level. Her interactive approach kept all engaged and made people really think about and ask themselves how they, as leaders, can do better. Katie Marrs

Finally, back in person, and what a delight it was! The California Young Rental Professionals were very excited about having a booth this year at the tradeshow. They made sure to start out strong by hosting a ring-toss game, giving ample opportunities for attendees to win a slew of different alcoholic beverages at the Monday night cocktail party. The cheers heard throughout the exhibit hall drew quite a crowd. Randy Leis and Bob DuBose were definitely the MVPs of the night, effortlessly ringing some top-notch bottles! Tuesday and Wednesday were a blur of information and recruiting at the booth. The CYRP is very excited to be hosting a Carnival on Sunday, April 24. It will be a day of family fun and networking among the CRA families.

CRA’s next Fourth Wednesday Rental Workshop will take place via Zoom on Feb. 23, 2022, from 2:30-4 p.m. A workshop titled “New Year, Same Dumba$$ Mistakes – Be Safe, Save$$” will be presented by EPIC and City Rentals. This workshop will cover workplace safety: top workers' compensation claims, worksite checklists — “everything has its place,” injury prevention and evaluation (e.g., soft-tissue injuries, such as strains and sprains), PPE requirements, and best practices.

Training for this FREE MEMBER BENEFIT runs for an hour and is followed by a Q&A session. Participants have a chance to win a $50 Amazon gift card during the raffle held at the end of the workshop. Thank you, City Rentals, for sponsoring this workshop!
There are basically two types of workers' compensation settlements: A stipulated finding and award, or stipulation, and a compromise and release.

Stipulation: When a workers’ compensation claim is settled by stipulation, the employer and employee stipulate legally as to what exactly the industrial injuries are, which parts of the body are involved, and the amounts of the permanent or temporary disability payments (usually paid out bi-weekly in most states). It is also agreed that ongoing medical claims from the injury will also be paid, if needed and as approved by designated personnel. The main benefit of a stipulation agreement is that it allows “both parties to voluntarily agree to a settlement without the need to take the work comp case to court and wait for the judge to make a decision following a hearing or trial,” according to the website MyAttorneyHome.com.

California Air Resources Board (CARB) staff invites you to participate in a public workgroup meeting to discuss a proposed regulatory measure that would accelerate the transition of internal-combustion forklifts to zero-emission technology. At this meeting, staff will continue the discussion that began at the Aug. 17, 2021, workgroup meeting regarding the zero-emission forklift measure. Staff has revised the regulatory concepts based on stakeholder feedback and redrafted the concepts as draft proposed regulatory text. The meeting discussion will focus on key updates to the concepts discussed at the August meeting. Prior to this upcoming workgroup meeting, participants are encouraged to review the updated draft regulatory concept document, which will be made available at the Zero-Emission Forklift webpage.

Two more communities have been added to California’s fight for clean air under the State’s Community Air Protection Program. The California Air Resources Board approved staff’s recommendation to select the East Oakland Community in the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (Bay Area AQMD) and the International Border Community (San Ysidro/Otay Mesa) in the San Diego Air Pollution Control District (San Diego APCD). Both communities were selected to develop a Community Emissions Reduction Program to improve air quality at the neighborhood scale, and the San Ysidro/Otay Mesa community was also selected to also develop a community air-monitoring plan. These two diverse, urban and border-area communities will work in partnership with their local air district in crafting community-specific plans to reduce both air-pollution emissions and exposures using a variety of strategies based on incentives, enhanced enforcement and rulemaking.
