Mentoring Program

This month, we asked if members would be interested in establishing a mentoring program for rental center employees, and if they would be interested in being a mentor or mentee. If you have additional ideas for surveys for CRA members, please send your request to CRA at Info@CalRental.org.

1. What type of business do you have?
Rental Center: 68% (19 responses)

2.Would you be interested in being a mentor in the CRA?
Yes: 60% (9 responses)
No: 40.00% (6 responses)
Additional comments:
1. Already got one.
2. Time permitting, would like to be able to give it 100% if I did.
3. As a Manufacturer's Representative, to help understand what we do for a Rental Company and supporting cast too for a Manufacturer.
4. I will help with new members. CRA is Best.

3. What do you feel are your strongest qualities that you could share with your mentee?
1. Customer Service, Customer Perspective, Sales Process
2. Hopefully, a guide to vendor/consumer relationship, importance of quality goods.
3. Forty plus years in the rental business. Customer service, equipment service, security, inventory, so many things you learn over the years.
4. Industry Knowledge and Expertise

7. I spent 14 years working with ARA Hall of Famer Mike Watts as a region manager, learning directly from him the importance of mentorship, people and integrity, as well as own my own rental company now that is growing and successful. Started the industry with Hertz in 1995 and have worked for a CAT dealer so I have seen all types of cultures and I benefited from mentors and have spent my career trying to pass on what has helped me.
8. 39 years of experience with equipment and selling to rental companies.
9. Looking for young rental people to really get into the rental business learning the real way to help customers to get their jobs done.

11. Knowledgeable product representative with a decade of sales experience. Understand both rental and dealer side. Eager to learn every facet of our industry.

1. I’m still very busy being a GM, doing every day rental business.

5. Would you be interested in sitting on a panel for mentor/mentee relationship discussions?

1. There are probably better applications. Or owner.

4. However, this year it may not be possible, with business growth and running lean staffed, I have little time.

9. What qualities would you want the mentor to possess for your potential mentee?
1. Listening, Solution Provider, Customer Service.
2. Benefits of the CRA and maintaining customer relations.
3. Rental and Business experience.
4. Rental Industry knowledge for air tools.
5. Honest and genuine real life sharing of experiences and situations. The ability to get a mentee to see beyond the obvious.
6. Treat people the way you want to be treated. Understand knowledge of the business and trends of manufacturing.
7. Curiosity and a good work ethic.
8. Wealth of knowledge within our industry. Knows current industry well and can forecast market updates. High communication skills, with leadership qualities.
