• Diesel Vehicles with a GVWR of more than 14,000 pounds that are owned by private or federal government fleets are subject to the Truck & Bus Regulation.

• Do you own a 2010 or older model year diesel truck? Your truck’s DMV Registration may be denied in 2023.For more information, please visit arb.ca.gov/truckstop or call toll-free 866-6-DIESEL.

By January 1, 2023, a vehicle (14,001 lbs. or greater GVWR) with a 2009 or older engine model year will not be compliant with the California Air Resources Board Truck and Bus Regulation and DMV registration will be automatically denied.

What you need to do:

To be compliant with the law in 2023, you must take one of the following actions:

1. Replace or repower the vehicle(s) with a 2010 model year of newer engine by January 1, 2023.

2. Qualify for a flexibility option and report in CARB’s Regulatory Reporting system (TRUCR).

3. Submit proof to CARB that the vehicle is exempt from regulation or that the vehicle is already a 2010 model year or newer. Vehicles with a 2010 engine model year or newer are compliant. Visit arb.ca.gov/excludedtb for more information.

When you need to act:

Take action as soon as possible. If you need to order a new truck, you may be able to continue using an existing truck if delivery of a new replacement vehicle is delayed past the compliance deadline as long as you order the new vehicle by September 1, 2022. More information about this provision is available at arb.ca.gov/manufacturerdelay.
