COVID-19 – Customers and Hand Washing/Sanitizing Stations

Thank you to all who take time to participate in our surveys. CRA uses the information we gather to better serve you. This month, we asked members about the availability of customer handwashing/sanitizing stations in their businesses due to COVID-19.

1. What type of Rental Business do you have?
General Rental: 56% (10 responses)
Party Rental: 28% (5 responses)
Both: 17% (3 responses)

2. What type of changes have you noticed in your customer base since COVID-19? For example a loss of restaurant and event rental customers but an increase in customers from big chain hardware stores.
1. Very, very busy with DIY and small contractors since about second week of April.
2. Gain of customers from big chain stores.
3. All customer except those needing propane.
4. Loss of everything - no graduations, no street fairs, no weddings or birthday parties. No increases from anyone.
5. No business.
6. In general I’ve seen a reduction in our customers across all types.
7. Our construction rentals are down, but the gardening and aerial lift rentals is steady.
8. Business is slower overall. Less customers and fewer deliveries.
9. No change.
10. Big increase in lawn and garden and trenchers Big decrease in generators , industrial forklifts , and larger booms 60’ plus.
11. Increase in homeowners and DIYers.
12. Customer based has not changed, but we have lost all major events through the summer, and most public events through the rest of the year. We are seeing more requests from schools for tenting for the fall semester, and churches for outdoor services (where the number of visitors is only limited by distancing).
13. Increase in homeowner rentals.
14. No party and event rentals till June, starting to get small orders, 2-3 tables 30ish chairs.

3. Have customers been more concerned with sanitary issues?
Yes: 53% (9 responses)
No: 47% (8 responses)
Additional comments:
1. At first there was more concern, but as time goes on there is less and less concern as people grow tired of the situation.
2. We have signs and hand sanitizer on the counter.
3. All customers are wearing masks.
4. That request or question has not come up at all.

4. Are customers asking for hand washing or sanitizer stations?
Yes: 35% (6 responses)
No: 65% (11 responses)
Additional comments:
1. We have hand sanitizer at our counters that our employees and customers make use of.
2. Refering to our friends in site service rentals.
3. Not yet...but we think it may become more prevalent in the fall.
4. We have only one and rented it several times.

1. Customer supplies soap and paper towel.

1. HELP.
2. Let’s clean and get over this!
3. We are still open seven days a week. I have more home owners coming in because they don’t want to wait in line at Home Depot.

11. Survey ideas
1. Do a survey at the end of the year and ask how 2020 businesses did income wise.
2. How have your sales team/marketing team adapted to new social distancing rules?
