DPT Course Schedule

The Safe Excavation Training (SET) course sets the standard on damage prevention and safe excavation practices around underground infrastructure. It is the knowledge requirement for excavators in Ontario. Excavators who successfully complete the training will be awarded the Safe Excavation Certificate, demonstrating they know best practices and proper procedures to minimize damage, ensure worker and public safety, and keep projects on time and on budget. They enhance their own and their company's reputation as professionals dedicated to the health of the industry and the public.

Developed by the ORCGA in consultation with numerous subject-matter experts and corporate training experts at Flint Learning Solutions, this training is based on the latest research and resources on excavation best practices, legislation, and standards. The Ontario government has announced plans to spend more than $14 million on upgrades to water infrastructure in Lanark and Frontenac counties.

The funding comes from the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Health and Safety Water Stream (MHIP-HSWS) and will help protect more than 1,400 homes.

“Today’s investment will protect homeowners and support the construction of new homes across Lanark and Frontenac counties,” said Premier Doug Ford. “We will continue to work with our municipal partners to build for the future and keep the dream of homeownership alive in Ontario.”

The Ontario government plans to invest nearly $44 million to help rehabilitate drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure in the Niagara Region.

The funding is being provided through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Health and Safety Water Stream (MHIP-HSWS) and will support access to safe drinking water, housing, job creation, and protection for communities in the event of extreme weather events.

“As we continue to navigate economic uncertainty, our government is protecting Ontario by investing in critical infrastructure that drives growth, creates jobs, and strengthens communities,” said Todd McCarthy, Acting Minister of Infrastructure. “Through our historic $4 billion Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, we are giving communities, including those across the Niagara Region, the help they need to deliver more homes, modernize aging water systems, and lay the foundation for long-term prosperity.”

The Ontario government has announced it will invest $15 million in ongoing annual funding through the Northern Resource Development Support (NORDS) Fund to help northern municipalities continue to improve local infrastructure.

The NORDS Fund helps municipalities across northern Ontario invest in vital infrastructure such as roads and bridges, access new economic opportunities through resource development, and mitigate the impacts of resource development on local infrastructure. Resource development operations, such as mining, forestry, and agriculture, are an important part of the provincial economy, yet they can also disproportionately impact northern municipal infrastructure. NORDS helps these municipalities strengthen local infrastructure, invest in long-term community growth, and support sustainable development.

The design of a four-lane bridge over the Welland Canal is now 60 percent complete, and a timeline was recently unveiled at a virtual public information presentation.

“The QEW Garden City Skyway – Bridge Twinning project includes the design and construction of an approximately 2.2-kilometer-long ‘twin’ Garden City Skyway bridge across the Welland Canal between St. Catharines and Niagara-on-the-Lake,” said Ian McConachie on behalf of Infrastructure Ontario (IO).

The new twin bridge will be built alongside the existing Garden City Skyway, running parallel, slightly to the north, within the same corridor.

Construction season in Ottawa is officially underway.

Public Works and Infrastructure Committee chair Coun. Tim Tierney kicked off the city’s summer construction season on Friday alongside Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, announcing more than $691 million worth of projects citywide.

“Each year, the city manages over the average of 700 different infrastructure projects in this entire city. While we don’t like the construction, it has to be done to ensure our municipality continues to progress forward,” Tierney said.

Investment will improve safety and reliability for residents

HAMILTON, ON—The City of Hamilton is investing more than $150 million in 2026 into active transportation, growth-related infrastructure, rehabilitation, and repaving of roads across the city, improving safety, traffic flow, and everyday travel for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.

During the City’s budget engagement process, residents identified infrastructure renewal and road conditions as top priorities. The 2026 Budget responds with sustained investment in both immediate repairs and long-term renewal. Of the approximate $150 million total investment, $106.1 million will be dedicated specifically to renewing and replacing existing roads, bridges, and sidewalks as part of the City’s broader $622 million infrastructure program.

Potholes, commutes, and construction: what Greater Sudbury drivers should know for summer 2026.

This spring, the road conversation in Greater Sudbury feels different.

It is not just one bad stretch, one neighbourhood, or one familiar trouble spot. The consensus seems to be that the potholes are bigger, more frequent, and harder to avoid—and almost no roads were spared.

For most of us, that is not an abstract infrastructure issue. It is the road we drive to work, the route we take to school drop-off, and the way we get across town for appointments, shopping, sports, showings, and everyday life.

And with Greater Sudbury heading into a major 2026 road construction and rehabilitation season, the bigger question becomes:

Which projects are most likely to affect how people move through the city this summer?
