Today we’re starting off with professional development tracks followed by the Food for Thought Luncheon with a keynote address from Duncan Wardle, 25-year veteran and former Head of Innovation and Creativity at Disney, multiple TED talk speaker, CEO ID8.

No one throws a party like APCO! Tonight is the Connect & Celebrate Dinner that starts with a reception in the ballroom foyer followed by a 3-course meal. Rock out to the Paradigm Party Band and hit the dance floor! Recognitions will be given during the dinner, including the Presidential Awards and the swearing-in of the APCO Executive Committee and Board of Directors. Tickets are available for purchase at registration.

The APCO 2024 Distinguished Achievers Breakfast was Tuesday at the Orange County Convention Center Valencia Ballroom. It featured recognition of agency accreditation, Certified Public-safety Executive (CPE) program graduates and a champion wrestler born with one leg.

APCO CEO and Executive Director Mel Maier kicked off the breakfast by thanking APCO’s 2024 corporate sponsors, including breakfast sponsor L3Harris. Other corporate sponsors are Comtech, OnStar, JVC Kenwood, Carbyne, CentralSquare Technologies, FirstNet Built with AT&T and Motorola Solutions.

Maier introduced the CPE program and its graduates since APCO 2023.

APCO members elected the association’s new 1st Vice President and 2nd Vice President Tuesday as results were announced during the Second General Business Session in the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.

Michael O’Connor won an uncontested election for 2nd Vice President. In the 1st Vice President election Jack Varnado won with 148 votes to Melissa Stroh’s 122 votes. Varnado is 911 director, Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office Communications Division, Livingston, Louisiana.

The newly elected members of the APCO Executive Committee will be sworn into their new positions on Wednesday along with current 1st Vice President Stephen Martini, who will become APCO President, and current President Becky Neugent, who will become Immediate Past President.

Keynote speaker Anthony Robles, who was born without a right leg, inspired the DIstinguished Achievers Breakfast audience with how he overcame his disability to become a three-time All-American college wrestler and the 2011 national champion in the 125-pound weight class.
