Today APCO unveiled its newly designed Walk of Heroes and dedicated the area to the memory of Kent Kruger. APCO staff and the Board of Directors gathered at APCO Headquarters in Daytona Beach, Florida, to unveil the new walkway and water fountain feature. In addition, a special brick was unveiled honoring Mark Spross, APCO’s previous second vice president, who passed away last year. The unveiling came after a months-long design and construction process. The new Walk of Heroes is a beautiful area that pays tribute to the individuals, groups, events and companies that have a special place in the heart of the APCO community.

The recent collaboration between APCO and IWA Technical Services marked a significant milestone in advancing public safety communications training. Two highly specialized courses—General Communication Technician (GCT) Level 1 and Line Antenna Sweep—were successfully delivered to a cohort of industry professionals, equipping them with critical knowledge and hands-on experience essential for supporting and maintaining reliable emergency communications systems.

On May 16, APCO submitted a filing with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) supporting amendments to the technical regulations governing Commercial Aviation Air-Ground Systems in the 849-851 and 894-896 MHz bands to promote technology neutrality and more efficient use of the spectrum, provided sufficient protections are adopted for public safety spectrum operations in adjacent bands. APCO emphasized the importance of ensuring that public safety operations can continue interference-free. Among other provisions, APCO urged the FCC to adopt a more stringent emissions mask than the FCC proposed and adopt processes to ensure timely detection and mitigation of any interference.

Space is available in APCO’s Fundamentals of Tactical Dispatch course, designed to develop and enhance telecommunicators' knowledge and skills to serve on a tactical/incident dispatch team. The training includes scenarios and practical exercises to explore the issues involved in working and responding to major events and incidents. It will be available as an online course June 4 - 24. Worth 16 CDEs.
