APCO's Comprehensive Quality course provides the information and resources to create a successful comm center quality assurance program. Information presented includes creating a quality assurance and improvement program that allows a focus on employee accomplishments while also addressing quality concerns. Topics include planning and methods, standards, feedback, coaching, and building a performance evaluation program. Instruction includes practical exercises to help students implement the program within their agency. The course is delivered online and is worth 16 CDEs. On Tuesday, June 27, at 10 a.m. ET the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T), in collaboration with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Integrated Public Alert Warning System (IPAWS), will test new technical capabilities to integrate emergency alert systems with new sensor technologies, such as unattended flood and wildfire sensors. The Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Phase Two Demonstration focuses on mitigating the risks and impacts of flooding and wildfires in areas where communities and natural landscapes meet.

Funding was directed toward new equipment and technology for 9-1-1 centers and new call centers for 9-8-8 suicide prevention lines.

Non-emergency calls will be answered by artificial intelligence designed to reduce wait time when public safety telecommunicators are overwhelmed with 9-1-1 calls.

APCO member Richard H. Tuma, 76, passed away June 16, at his home in Williams Bay, Wisconsin, after a long career in public safety. Tuma retired as the director of emergency preparedness in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, in 2013 and held positions as APCO Chapter Life Member, Illinois Chapter president, 1999-2000, vice president, MAAP member, State Conference chair and Legislative Committee chair.
