Kern, CPE; Derek PoarchToday, APCO held a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the expansion of APCO International’s headquarters in Daytona Beach, Florida. Recently the APCO Board approved a 4,700 square foot addition onto the east side of the existing building to allow for additional offices, meeting rooms, and a doubling of the existing conference and training room space. The project will be undertaken in two phases and will be completed by December 31, 2023. In attendance were the Executive Committee, Board of Directors and headquarters staff. Shortly after 1 a.m. on June 24, 2021, a 12-story beachfront condominium in Surfside, Florida, partially collapsed, killing 98 people. Four survivors were pulled from the rubble; one of those subsequently died. A complex evacuation was initiated for 35 people who were in a portion of the building that did not collapse but was compromised. Local, state and federal teams participated in a multi-day search and rescue effort.

Bob Marz, an APCO life member, passed away October 5 at home in South Ogden, Utah, with his family. He was 87. Marz became a public safety telecommunicator for the Utah Highway Patrol in 1959 and advanced to radio engineer within a year. He served northern Utah in this position until 1990. Marz retired from the state service in 1998.
