On September 4, APCO filed a motion with the U.S. Court of Appeals to halt implementation of the FCC’s order permitting new unlicensed use of the 6 GHz band. Although courts rarely grant such requests, APCO took this action because the threat of harmful interference to licensed public safety microwave operations is imminent and can result in unrecoverable harm. APCO is asking the court to prevent deployment of new unlicensed devices while it considers APCO’s appeal of the FCC’s 6 GHz order.

Telecommunicators need to be prepared for calls beyond the daily emergencies – calls that are crisis situations that require an advanced level of training to handle successfully. Topics covered in this online course include hostage situations, barricaded subject incidents and suicidal callers, among others. Flagler County (Florida) Sheriff’s Office Communications Specialist McKenzie Davis talked a mother through CPR for her 6-month-old child who had stopped breathing. An hour later, she helped a family provide CPR for a 71-year-old man who was in a pool and not breathing.
