Lori VanGilder Preuss, CPE, has been instructing with the APCO Institute since September 1999. She became involved in public safety in 1986, and started in telecommunications in 1987 straight out of high school. Lori has worked in a wide variety of positions including volunteer firefighter, communications training officer, crime analyst and communications center supervisor. Lori served the Florida Chapter of APCO as training committee chair and as chapter president in 2008. She has also served on several APCO International committees.

A dedicated lifelong learner, Lori has a Bachelor’s Degree in Adult Vocational Education and Industry Training, with a specialization in public safety telecommunications, and enjoys creating new courses. She finds her energy from students in live and online classes and learns something new from students during every class. She is married, with a 17-year-old son and two mischievous pups. On the rare day off she can be found reading a good novel or baking.

APCO International received final approval from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for a revised American National Standard (ANS) that identifies core competencies and minimum training standards for public safety communications instructors.
