The Young Professionals Task Force will focus on enhancing opportunities for young professionals to become more active in their community and take on more leadership roles in the public safety industry. This task force will provide suggestions and feedback on future programs to assist professional members 35 years of age or younger. Deadline for volunteering is February 28. For more information.
 
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2018 APCO International Public Safety Communications Awards Program (PSAP) and the Technology Leadership Award. Recipients will receive their awards during APCO 2018, taking place August 5-8 in Las Vegas, NV. Deadline is April 1, 2018. Learn more

Wireless 9-1-1 Deployment & Management Effective Practices Writing Group
APCO International is looking for a well-balanced group that will include contributions from technical and operational subject matter experts. All interested persons should complete the online application and indicate their preference for this writing group at Wireless 9-1-1 Deployment & Management Effective Practices.

Application deadline is February 6, 2018. Selections will be made within two weeks of the deadline and all applicants will be notified of their status.

Stacy Banker, Standards Program Manager
Stacy left the PSAP and joined APCO International in 2017. She works in the Comm Center 9-1-1 Services (CC9S) department and manages all APCO standards development activities. From participating in writing groups to working with the Standards Development committee, she works closely with many amazing volunteers to produce ANSI-accredited public safety communications standards.

This June will be Stacy’s 30th year in public safety communications! Having seen a few changes along the way, Stacy is eager to see where technology takes us next and what might be possible in the future.Stacy has always loved the business side of the PSAP and really enjoys the project management aspect of her work. She is looking forward to all of the standards initiatives that will arise from the next generation of public safety communications and will continue to assist APCO with maintaining its position as the premier public safety communications standards-setting body.

Stacy is an RPL and ENP and holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Business Administration.

Hartford Police Department, Wisc., has met the minimum training standards for the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International Agency Training Program Certification, a Project 33® Initiative, and has been awarded certification as of January 5, 2018.
 
1340 WJOL A total of 31 communities will be served by the complex that will be officially dedicated January 16. The new 9-1-1 dispatch center on the first floor went live the week of December 20, consolidating 31 communities under one roof.

Observer-Dispatch David Cook, FirstNet regional lead for New York, touted new devices, technology and improved broadband for first responders.
 
The Reporter Donna Weaver plans to join her husband who has already moved into their dream home in Montana. She started dispatching by filling in for an emergency need which led to a permanent job and eventually a position as communications center supervisor. During her years of service, she saw a lot of change and helped the unit evolve.
