Samtai Tissue Mill Approaching Startup in Brazil

Samtai a Taiwanese-based investor group, reportedly is building a 35,000 metric tpy tissue mill in the city of Paulínia São Paulo state, Brazil. Startup is expected in October, according to RISI (Brussels, Belgium), which noted that the mill is targeting 3,000 metric tpy but plans to reach 5,000 metric tpy, likely with the subsequent startup of a second machine.

The RISI report said that Samtai had acquired two tissue machines from ABK Italia (formerly Over Meccanica). The first one shipped to Brazil in November 2011 and the second this past February. The Taiwan investor group also owns the tissue producer Papelera Samseng in Argentina and operates a converting facility in Araucária city, Paraná state, Brazil, according to RISI. The new tissue mill in Paulinia will produce high quality tissue from virgin pulp only, RISI added.
