Following regulatory approval and as announced earlier this year, the Tejani family-owned Sofidel S.p.A, Italy, has acquired Leicester, U.K.-based, LPC Group, a major producer of household paper and hygiene products, forming Europe's second largest tissue producer with a combined turnover of EUR 1.3 billion annually.
Prior to the acquisition, Sofidel had 17 manufacturing operations in eight countries across Europe, producing more than 700,000 metric tpy of tissue products. It employs 3,200 people throughout Europe. With mills in four different countries, LPC brings tissue making capacity of nearly 190,000 metric tpy to the merger. The Group employs some 1,120 people and distributes products in more than 27 countries. It had a turnover £236 million in the year ending September 2009. The company manufactures private label products for major retailers and specialist tissue for converters in the personal hygiene, catering, and medical markets.
