SCA Americas, Philadelphia, Pa., USA, recently donated 59 cases of foam hand sanitizer, 120 touch-free dispensers, and 1,000 cases of Tork® boxed facial tissue to the School District of Philadelphia as part of a school supply donation campaign organized by Global Citizen and Interstate General Media. The supplies were delivered to the Delaplaine McDaniel School (K-8).

The Philadelphia School district will distribute and use the donated Tork® tissue, hand sanitizer, and dispensers over the course of the school year, equaling more than 60,000 hand washes that kill 99.99% of harmful germs to help prevent the spread of disease. The 1,000 cases of Tork® boxed facial tissue can be distributed to the district’s 275 schools. The total donation has a value of $16,000.

The month-long donation drive will support teachers and students in Philadelphia schools affected by the district’s supply deficit. Led by Global Citizen, a city-based civic engagement organization that conducts the annual Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service, and Interstate General Media, publisher of The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Daily News, and Philly.com, the campaign to gather supplies from public donations ended in late October.

"Not only will our children benefit from these much-needed supplies, but our teachers and staff will appreciate the sanitizer and tissue as we head into the winter months and flu season," said Lachante Collier-Bacon, principal of the Delaplaine McDaniel School.

"When we heard about the donation drive to benefit the Philadelphia School District, we knew we had to help," said Don Lewis, president of SCA Americas. "As a global hygiene company, we are glad that we can contribute to the campaign to alleviate their need for supplies—as well as encourage proper hand hygiene at the same time."

SCA’s Tork dispensers reduce waste and the risk of cross-contamination in environments such as school restrooms, cafeterias, office buildings, and sports facilities.

"SCA has responded to our call for help in a most generous way," said Todd Bernstein, president of Global Citizen. "Their donation is by far the largest we’ve received."
