SsangYong C&B Invests in New Toscotec Tissue Machine at South Korean Mill

SsangYong C&B Inc., Jochiwon-eup, Seong, South Korea, has purchased a new tissue machine with a production capacity of 91 tpd from Toscotec, Italy. The machine will be installed in the Jochiwon mill and is expected to come on stream at the end of 2013.

Ssangyong C&B produces and markets paper and tissues, including facial, bath, kitchen towels, adult diapers, and household products. The company was founded in 1980 and is owned by David Kim. Operating as a subsidiary of Monalisa Co., it is one of the biggest tissue producers and converters in South Korea.

In Korean, Ssangyong means "two dragons," which the company says is "clean and best." The group owns three tissue plants in different cities--one tissue production and converting plant in Jochiwon, one tissue and converting plant in Jeonju, and a converting plant in Daejon. The company has a total production capacity of 130,000 metric tpy with seven tissue machines—four of them at the Jochiwon mill and three others at the Jeonju plant.

The new Toscotec AHEAD 1.5S tissue machine is a crescent former with a single-layer headbox, double press configuration, a Steel Yankee Dryer TT SYD-12FT, and a Reel section TT Reel-P. The Toscotec scope of supply also includes a high efficiency gas fired hood, steam and condensate system, and a steam recovery boiler fed by hood exhaust air provided by Toscotec associate Milltech. A shaft puller for expandable shafts is also included in the supply.

The machine operating speed is 1,700 m/min with a net web width of 2,730 mm. The project will be managed by Toscotec and Milltech, including engineering and overall services, and will be focused on energy saving concepts.
