Sofidel Named on CDP "A list" For Efforts in Fight Against Climate Change

Sofidel, a global leader in the production of paper for hygienic and domestic use, particularly well-known in Italy and Europe for its Regina brand, has obtained the maximum score – an “A” rating – from CDP for its commitment to the fight against climate change.

“It is important for us to see the quality of our commitment to sustainability confirmed once again by an organisation like CDP. All the more so when the whole world's attention is focused on ecological transition and the need is increasingly urgent for decisions and policies that can positively impact on efforts to build a more sustainable future for people and the Planet. This is important recognition that motivates us to do even more” said Luigi Lazzareschi, chief executive officer of Sofidel.

Sofidel has also seen its leadership in the fight against deforestation recognised, obtaining an A-rating.

The criteria used by CDP in compiling the ranking are based on the level of transparency and performance of the assessed companies. In 2021, only 272 out of a total of around 12,000 rated companies have been included on the CDP's "A" List.

CDP is a non-profit organisation that, at the global level, supports investors, companies, cities, states and regions in managing their environmental impact and provides information on environmental performance to more than 590 investors with assets worth more than $110 trillion. The global economy regards CDP as the “gold standard” of environmental reporting with the most detailed and complete set of data on the actions of companies and cities.

Sofidel is committed to reducing the impact of its activities on the natural capital, encouraging the transition to a low carbon emission economy oriented towards renewable energies. The Group’s 2030 emission reduction goals, equal to -40 percent per tonne of paper by 2030 compared to the base year 2018, were approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as consistent with the reduction standards required by the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to well below 2°C.

To contribute to the fight against deforestation, the total amount of virgin cellulose used by the group is controlled in accordance with rigorous environmental, social and economic standards guaranteed by independent third parties, such as the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Sofidel is also one of the first companies to take part in the multi-stakeholder initiative “Forests Forward”, launched internationally by the WWF to consolidate the timber procurement policy, reinforcing the programme of involving suppliers in contributing to the fight against deforestation, conserving ecosystems and protecting the rights of local communities.
