Essity has announced its intention to permanently close PM 7 at its Nokia tissue mill in Finland by Q3 2021. Co-determination negotiations will start on March 25 and the shut would result in 30 job losses.

Essity continuously strives to optimize efficiency in the company and all our production facilities, reduce costs and CO2 impact, while securing high-quality and sustainable products.

As part of this ongoing work, the company plans to invest more than Euro 4 million ($4.7 million) in the Nokia site in 2021 and examine the possibility of the closure of a smaller paper machine, as there is an overcapacity in the Nokia plant. The firm’s Nokia mill produces tissue paper on PM 7 and PM 9 which can produce 25,000 mtpy and 55,000 mtpy, respectively.
