In China, Oji Holdings has begun trial production on a new 60,000-mtpy tissue machine at its pulp and paper complex in Nantong city, Jiangsu province.

The unit churned out its first sheet of tissue in late September.

Provided by Andritz, the machine has a trim width of 5.6 m and a design speed of 2,000 m/min.

It is the second TM to have come online at the site. The first, which is identical, was fired up in late June. The pair are partly integrated with a 700,000-mtpy on-site bleached hardwood kraft (BHK) pulp line.

All of their output will be sold in jumbo rolls, mostly in China.

The company has also started to ship a small proportion of the jumbo rolls to Japan as previously planned, according to a company executive.

According to an environmental impact assessment document that Oji published in 2018, Oji will build a total of 360,000 mtpy of tissue capacity at the Nantong mill.

A timeline for the rest of the expansion scheme has not been unveiled.

The mill also operates a 400,000-mtpy coated fine paper machine, which was commissioned in 2010.
