Vietnamese tissue paper supplier Xuong Giang Paper has unveiled plans to install a TM at its sole mill in the country’s northern province of Bac Giang, with production targeting both the domestic and export markets.

The company has signed up Andritz to supply the medium-size tissue machine, as well as a stock preparation system for the mill. Its startup is scheduled for Q4 this year.

The 2.85 m-wide unit will have a design speed of 1,300 m/min, with a daily capacity of 54 tonnes (or 19,000 mtpy). It will be furnished with virgin pulp.

According to Andritz, the TM will feature a 12-foot steel yankee dryer equipped with a steam-heated hood to ensure highly efficient drying and substantial energy cost savings compared to cast iron yankee dryers and gas-heated hoods.

A spokesperson for Xuong Giang indicated that the Bac Giang plant currently operates two tissue machines that have a combined capacity of about 30,000 mtpy.

The mill owns 12 converting machines that process tissue and printing and writing paper products for marketing domestically and for export to Southeast Asia, India, Israel, the UK and the USA.

Vietnam is one of a few countries internationally that has managed to greatly limit the spread of COVID-19 in its borders.

Although the country imposed restrictions on the movement of people and on non-essential activities in April, Xuong Giang’s operations have not been affected, said the spokesperson.

However, she lamented that the company’s sales of tissue and paper products have taken a hit this year both domestically and abroad, down by 50 percent from last year.
