Russian Mills Continue to Operate as Country Tightens Coronavirus Restrictions

The number of coronavirus cases continued to rise in Russia in late March. Russian president Vladimir Putin declared the first week of April as a non-working week, while Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin put forward quarantine-like restrictions for all Muscovites. The measures are expected to be formally imposed by the end of this week. Similar plans are being introduced in a number of Russian regions.

There are exceptions to the non-working week proclamation among certain industries, including the country’s pulp and paper (P&P) mills, which continue to operate under the presidential decree while closely monitoring employees’ health and implementing strict hygiene rules.

Operations of the Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill (APPM) are running normally, and the firm is continuing to implement all of its investment programs, the company said. Meanwhile, APPM’s Arkhbum Tissue Group continues to increase production volumes for its most popular products now - toilet paper and towels, the company said in a statement.
