CMPC Acquires Brazilian Tissue Producer Sepac for $330 Million

Chilean pulp and paper producer CMPC has announced the acquisition of Brazilian tissue producer Sepac for Real 1.3 billion ($330 million). The company expects the closing of the deal to occur in 120 days.

Based in the Brazilian southern state of Paraná, Sepac can produce 135,000 mtpy of tissue paper. The company owns six paper machines and 17 conversion lines. Sepac also has a 175-million/yr diaper output.

After incorporating Sepac, CMPC’s tissue arm Softys will have a total tissue capacity in Brazil of 280,000 mtpy. CMPC already owns two tissue paper mills in the São Paulo state, southeast Brazil, with combined capacity to produce 145,000 mtpy.
