TAPPI’s TissueCon 2019 offers attendees the opportunity to learn about some unique innovations at its first-ever New Technology Showcase (NTS), Wednesday, October 2 and Thursday, October 3. Both sessions will run from 1:00-5:00 p.m. each day.

The NTS features 20 companies, both from inside and outside the industry, who will share information and demonstrate advanced technologies, services and products that can have direct application on tissue production and mill operations. A brief sampling of topics includes:

  • Improving noise cancellation with 1/8-in. thick material that blocks sound with the same effectiveness as 12 inches of poured concrete
  •  Improving diesel fuel efficiency by 20 percent while at the same time reducing emissions by 40 percent
  • Improving slippage in the winding process.

TissueCon 2019 also features a robust technical program, new technologies impacting the industry, technical training, and in-depth industry discussions such as:

  1. Global and Business Insights: Covering international policy, global trends in manufacturing, and availability of natural resources.
  2. Creating Softness: Covering chemicals (treatments), mechanical (creping, converting), materials (fibers, wood type and recycled materials), and psychology (perception).
  3. How Data is Changing Manufacturing: Covering the transition from mere data collection to use of learning systems (Artificial Intelligence) to make real-time adjustments versus post-process analysis.

The overall program offers a dual focus on technical advancements in tissue making and market intelligence driving the future of the industry. In addition, attendees also have the chance to attend TAPPI’s industry leading Tissue 101 course which can serve both as a refresher, or introduction, to the industry. It is ideal for engineers, sales staff and management, and is structured to provide a solid understanding of tissue properties and how they are impacted by manufacturing process.

TissueCon 2019 is being held October 1-4 in Orlando, FL, and is the only non-commercial, peer-reviewed event of its kind in North America this year.
