Xiamen Xinyang Restarts Sole Tissue PM in Fujian, China

Xiamen Xinyang Paper has restarted a long-idled tissue PM at its mill in Xiamen city, in China’s southeastern province of Fujian. First started up in 2012, it has a trim width of 5.6 m and an operating speed of 1,900 m/min.

It remains the only PM at the site and the largest tissue production line in Fujian. Due to fierce competition, the Xiamen plant was indefinitely idled in late 2014.

In February, Sen Yang Enterprise, an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore-based New Toyo International Holdings, entered into an arrangement with Xiamen Xinyang to lease the mill for two years.

Valmet, the original supplier of the PM, was signed up to provide the restart service, including necessary project management, maintenance and spare parts.

New Toyo International stated that the Xiamen facility will be producing jumbo rolls for sale to converters and making finished tissue products as an original equipment manufacturer for other converters.

As a regional provider of specialty packaging for the Asia Pacific food and beverage, cosmetic, and especially tobacco industries, the company saw the move as part of a plan to further broaden its product portfolio outside of tobacco packaging and to diversify its earning streams.

The company’s controlling shareholder and chairman, Yen Wen Hwa, is the owner of New Toyo Pulppy Vietnam, which operates a 35,000-metric ton/yr tissue paper plant in Binh Duong province.
