Lee & Man Paper Manufacturing has fired up two new 60,000-mtpy tissue machines at its plant in China’s southwestern municipality of Chongqing.

Dubbed TM 16 and TM 17, the two Valmet-supplied units churned out their first sheets of paper on May 9 and June 9 respectively.

With the start-ups of the two TMs, the Hong Kong-listed recycled containerboard giant now boasts a total tissue capacity of around 870,000 mtpy, including 630,000 mtpy at Chongqing mill, 120,000 mtpy at the Jiujiang mill in Jiangxi province and 120,000 mtpy at the Hongmei mill in Guangdong province.

That makes it the fourth largest tissue producer in China, after APP China, Hengan International and Vinda International Holding.

Further capacity expansion is underway at Lee & Man’s Jiujiang plant, where four 17,000-mtpy tissue machines are scheduled to come onstream by the end of this year.
