Italian P&B Production Rises by 1.5 percent in the First Four Months of 2018

Italian paper and board (P&B) production rose by 1.5 percent year on year during the first four months of the year, data from Assocarta, the Italian association of pulp, paper and board producers, revealed. During the same period, the industry’s revenues increased by 6.5 percent, partially offsetting pulp price increases. 

Tissue paper production increased by 3.3 percent on a year-on-year basis in the period, and so did packaging paper production, which rose by 2.3 percent. In particular, containerboard production increased by 1.0 percent while cartonboard and wrapping paper production increased by 3.4 percent and 4.8 percent, respectively. 

Tissue paper demand rose by 3.8 percent during the period, while packaging paper consumption increased by 1.8 percent, with containerboard improving by 2.1 percent.

Both tissue and packaging paper exports increased by 1 percent, with cartonboard and wrapping paper rising by 1 percent and 2.8 percent, respectively.
