Sojitz Corporation has acquired 95.24 percent of issued common shares in Saigon Paper, one of Vietnam’s largest paper manufacturers. This acquisition marks Sojitz’s entrance into Vietnam’s household paper and containerboard manufacturing business.

SGP is Vietnam’s No. 1 leading manufacturer of household paper products, which include tissues, toilet paper, and paper napkins. The company’s top brands such as "bless you" and "Saigon" are widely recognized and trusted throughout Vietnam for their high quality. The company also boasts top-class production capacity in the industrial paper sector, supplying containerboard to manufacturers of cardboard boxes, paper plates, and cardboard tubes.

Approximately 60 percent of the old paper used as raw material for SGP’s containerboard is obtained through the company’s own paper recycling centers, thereby reducing the business’ impact on the environment through a sustainable reuse of paper.

In Vietnam, the per capita GDP growth rate over the past five years averaged to over 6 percent growth per year. As the country’s economy steadily expands to make way for more modern lifestyles and modernized distribution and retail techniques, demand is growing for household paper products such as tissue paper and toilet paper rolls, as well as containerboard used in packaging for distribution.

Sojitz has a long history of contributing to Vietnam’s development in various business sectors such as afforestation and farming, manufacturing, and consumer goods. Capitalizing on its experience in Vietnam and international business know-how, Sojitz will work to strengthen SGP’s manufacturing infrastructure for household paper and containerboard to meet the increasing demand for paper products in Vietnam as the country modernizes.
