According to the Shelby Star, two grant requests totaling $4 million have been approved to assist the city of Shelby with infrastructure upgrades ahead of Clearwater Paper’s expansion.

In February, Clearwater Paper announced that it would expand its operations in Cleveland County with a new facility adjacent to its original location at 687 Washburn Switch Road. The company plans to add 180 new jobs and invest $330 million in the new facility, machinery and equipment over the next three years.

The North Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority approved a $1 million request under the Industrial Development Fund - Utility Account program for infrastructure upgrades and a $3 million request under the Community Development Block Grant program for the construction of a water line, sewer lines and a lift station.
