JSC Syassky, Russia, has started up its 45,000 metric tpy Toscotec, Italy, AHEAD-1.5M tissue line at the Syasstroy mill in in the Leningrad region of Russia. The new machine came on stream well in advance of schedule.

Following the PM 3 startup, the Syasstroy’s site is actually one of the most efficient Russian paper mills, employing more than 2,000 people to make 110,000 metric tpy of tissue—almost twice the productivity of many competitor mills.

"The Toscotec AHEAD 1.5M tissue making line is designed to produce high quality tissue from dry and slush pulps, with a real reduction in the mill’s energy cost. That is important not only for us but also for our customers who realize the importance of sustainable industrial production. Toscotec has well understood our technological target as well as economical needs. Our partnership begun in 2009 with two new rewinders and continued in 2012 with an AHEAD line (PM 2) until this new successful cooperation," said Irina Mozhaeva, chairman of the Board of Directors of Syassky PPM.

The Toscotec scope of "furniture" for the new PM 3 included the AHEAD-1.5M crescent former tissue machine with a single layer headbox, single press configuration with suction pressure roll TT SPR1045, a 12 ft. dia. steel yankee dryer TT SYD-12FT. and a reel section TT Reel-P. The delivery also included the stock preparation plant, gas heated hood, and steam and condensate system, as well as electrification and control system. Engineering and services (erection supervision, commissioning and start up assistance, and training) completed the package.

Founded in 1928 with the goal to cover the needs of the domestic market, Syassky PPM in recent years launched a huge investment process and has been reorganized as a joint stock company able to satisfy not only the growing domestic demand, but also export markets.
