SsangYong C&B Inc., Jochiwon-eup, Seong, South Korea, has purchased a new Indev Real-Time In-Line tissue Measurement and QMS system with a production capacity of 91 metric tpd from Indev Gauging Systems, Rockford Ill., USA. The machine is installed at the Jochiwon mill and came on stream this past January.

Ssangyong C&B produces and markets paper and tissue products, including facial, bath, kitchen towels, adult diapers, and household products. The company, once part of Procter and Gamble, was founded in 1980 and is currently owned by David Kim. Operating as a subsidiary of Monalisa Co., it is one of the biggest tissue producers and converters in South Korea.

In Korean, Ssangyong means "two dragons," which the company says are "clean and best." The group owns three tissue plants in different cities—one tissue production and converting plant in Jochiwon, one tissue and converting plant in Jeonju, and a converting plant in Daejon. The company has a total production capacity of 130,000 metric tpy with seven tissue machines—four of them at the Jochiwon mill and three others at the Jeonju plant.

The new Indev Classic Paper-Pro tissue Gauging System is a Key QMS Quality Measurement System with basis weight and moisture measurement of a single-layer headbox, double press configuration, a steel yankee dryer TT SYD-12FT, and a reel section TT Reel-P. The Indev scope of supply also includes a precision suite of process measurement and trending software.

The machine operating speed is 1,700 m/min. with a net web width of 2,750 mm. Stable production, compliance to quality control specifications and elimination of waste are absolutely essential to achieve profitable tissue making, the company says.

More information on the Indev gauging systems is available online.
